Chain O'Lakes Online The Chain-O-Lakes are located approximately 40 miles northwest of Chicago, just south of the Illinois/Wisconsin Border in Lake County and McHenry County, Illinois. "The Chain" is a fun place to come and enjoy your weekends; regardless of the season! Also called "The Fox Chain" this network of lakes consists of nine major lake basins thereby making it the largest inland recreational water area in all of northeastern Illinois. The majority of the lakes reside in Western Lake County and partially in McHenry County.
