LakeOnline.com was launched in July of 1996 by TheIStudio.com which opened its doors in downtown Antioch back in December of 1995. The excitement and the newness of technology was the driving force behind the creation of LakeOnline.com as a community service project created to introduce the online world to Northern Illinois -- and Lake County to the Web. Since that time, LakeOnline.com has strived to provide information and resources to the Lake County, Illinois community by constantly adding, growing and evolving with technology as needed.
This includes our very popular Chain O'Lakes Info Center, Fishin' Hole, Community Calendar, Solunar Tables and tons of holiday and specialty pages. We added a free directory 2 years ago which quickly was abused by spammers and seedy onliners.
Therefore, this year we decided to revamp the entire site to be directory related with a fun and new twist. To help us keep the spammers at bay a modest $5 review fee is required to be listed on the site. This takes the "free and easy" aspect off the table which then helps to focus on those sites and businesses who realize the value that a 12 year old established site can offer them. If someone thinks five bucks is too much to spend to be listed; well they probably don't have a very good site or understand that online, marketing is no longer a free lunch! Plus we prefer to help and list those sites that "get it"!
Then, site participants can bid for position based on how much they want to spend. It's up to each site owner where their site is listed, if they are listed on the top page and what position they are listed in. For more info, read our Terms of Service.
